Obituary of Novella Gann Burford

NOVELLA GANN BURFORD - age 90 of Lafayette passed on Friday morning, November 11, 2011 at Knollwood Manor. Funeral services for Novella Burford were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Don Curtis officiating. Carrol Meador, Tony Meador, Jeff Meador, Tyler Meador, Dylan Meador, Fred Cartwright, Shane Gann, Scott Gann, and Stanly Gann served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens. Novella was born on September 26, 1921 in Lafayette, Tennessee to the late Johnny Franklin and Tina Cothron Gann. She was one of seven siblings born to this union. Novella was married to her life-long companion and sweetheart, Clay Burford. They raised two daughters, Vivian and Joanna that they cherished. Clay passed away on April 2, 1993, after battling cancer. Besides her husband and parents; brothers, Kenneth Gann, Eugene Gann, and Bobby Gann, sisters, Georgia Butcher, and Linda Thompson also preceded her in death. Novella enjoyed taking care of her home. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, who loved being able to stay at home and take care of her family. She was very talented when it came to sewing. Put a needle and some yarn in Novella's hands and she could make anything. If she had a preference, piecing quilts and crocheting would be Novella's favorite. Novella also kept her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, so her daughter could work. She was a good cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Novella liked working in her flower gardens and working crossword puzzles, in her spare time. She enjoyed traveling with her family especially to Gatlinburg and the Ocean. When Novella grew older she liked going to Golden Oaks. There she met her friends to play bingo, dominoes, and Rook. They were known as the "Golden Girls". When in her twenty's Novella was saved and going to church always meant the world to her. She was a member of Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. Novella will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her. Novella is survived by; Daughters, Vivian Burford, and Joanna (Carrol) Meador all of Lafayette, Grandsons, Tony (Teresa) Meador, and Jeff (Tasha) Meador all of Lafayette, Great Grandchildren, Amanda, Andrea, Tyler, Dylan, Tiara, Christian, and Chelsie Meador, and Sister, Wilma Gann Jones.
