JERRY WAYNE MORGAN - age 61 of Lafayette passed away on Thursday evening, November 24, 2011 at Macon County General Hospital. Funeral services for Jerry Morgan were conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Walter Andrews officiating. Cremation followed. Jerry was born on July 16, 1950 in Wilson County, Tennessee to the late James Oscar and Mary Dee Jenkins Morgan. He was one of three siblings born to this union. On November 24, 2011 at the age of 61, Jerry departed this life. Besides his parents; Brother, William Thomas "Tommy" Morgan, and nephews, Chris McCarter, Eric Lafevers, and Donnie Marsh, also preceded him in death. Jerry married his lifelong sweetheart, the former Sharon Ann McCarter on May 8, 1976, sharing thirty-five years together. They raised a son and a daughter that they loved deeply. Jerry was a simple man full of talent and knowledge. He worked most of his life as a painter. Customizing signs for the local realtors and politicians filled a lot of his schedule. However his favorite painting was when he was able to paint religious scenes from the Bible. He was also very blessed with a great ability to play musical instruments and sing. He enjoyed playing his guitar and banjo with his friends at local venues around the area. In Jerry's spare time, he enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He liked to build or make things as simple as toys, but his passion for tinkering led him to the discovery of the Redneck Record Player. This was Jerry's favorite invention. He used simple trash or scraps to build a Recorder and DC Player that could record a person's voice onto a soft drink can and play back their words. By most, Jerry would have been considered a genius. Jerry was saved as a young man and joined Haysville Missionary Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife and children and all who knew and loved him.
