Obituary of Glenn Ray

GLENN "Jim" RAY, age 62, of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011 at University Medical Center in Lebanon. Funeral Services for Glenn Ray were conducted, Monday, December 19 at 2 p.m. from Brattontown Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Guthrie Thompson and Elder Royce Key officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were Terry Ray, Ethan Flippin, Jerry Wrinkle, Tony Wrinkle, Robert Ray, and Jason Reeves. Interment followed in the Drury Cemetery. Glenn was born on December 21, 1948 in Dixon Springs, TN to the late Paul Winford and Dovie Irene Moore Ray. He was one of seven boys and 3 girls born to this union. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by; brothers, Pauly, Billy Wayne, Roy Neil, Lonnie, and Charlie Lee Ray, and sister, Earlene Ray. Glenn married the girl he met at a prayer meeting, the former Sharon Reeves, on August 1, 1964, sharing forty-seven years together. Together they raised a son and two daughters. As a young man he played softball, and he also coached youth softball in Lafayette for 20 years. Glenn worked for the local Highway Department for 16 years of his life serving as the Macon County Road Supervisor from 2000-2004. Poor health forced him to retire early from the career that he loved. Glenn always enjoyed politics, and he continued to keep up with everything going on around him even after retirement. Glenn was a simple man who loved his family dearly. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. Most importantly in his life, Glenn was saved at home as a 10 year old boy with his mother in the floor praying by his side. He later joined Brattontown Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved him. Glenn is survived by; Wife, Sharon Ray, Son, Mickey (Beverly) Ray, Daughters, Regina Flippin, Crystal (Troy) Swindle all of Lafayette, TN, Grandchildren, Ethan Ray Flippin, Emily Flippin, Erica Flippin, Megan Swindle, Casondra Swindle all of Lafayette, TN, Brother, Ronnie Ray of Lafayette, TN, Sisters, Olene (Chester) Wrinkle of Hartsville, TN, Reba Stevens of Lafayette, TN, Sister-in-law, Betty Ray, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
