Obituary of Flossie Odell Harp

Flossie Odell Harp - age 92 of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, January 05, 2012 at Macon County General Hospital. Funeral services for Flossie Harp were conducted on Sunday, January 8, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Jackie Wakefield and Elder Dewayne Gregory officiating. Travis Harp, Chris Harp, Greg Earps, Billy Bowman, Mickey Harp, James Harp, David Crowder, and Dustin Cook served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Jenkins Cemetery at Milltown. Flossie was born on October 11, 1919 in Trousdale County, Tennessee to the late Lee Arvil Kelley and Mary Elizabeth Stafford Kelley. She was one of four children born to this union. On January 5, 2012 at the age of 92, Flossie went to be with the Lord. Flossie was married to her childhood sweetheart James Estes Harp in April of 1935, sharing fifty-six years together. They raised thirteen children during their life together; Estes preceded her in death in 1991. Flossie spent the majority of her time as a young woman caring for her children. However, she always found time to do her sewing for the community. She would hem garments or repair them for the public to help make a living for her family. Over the years, Ms. Flossie always enjoyed raising a big garden and canning vegetables. She also enjoyed growing flowers. Most importantly, Flossie was saved by God's grace as a young girl at a brush arbor meeting. She later joined Sycamore Valley Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until her passing. Ms. Flossie leaves behind a host of family that loved her dearly. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by; Daughters, Neelie (Charles) Wakefield of the New Harmony Community, Margaret (Ray) Woodard of the Union Camp Community, Lois (Gordon) Rowe of Cleveland, TN, and Connie (Jim) Hightower of Lafayette, Sons, Robbie (Nancy) Harp, Paul (Joan) Harp, Jimmy (Georgie) Harp all of Lebanon, Odean (Lorene) Harp of Lafayette, Oval (Mai Dell) Harp of the Union Camp Community, Kerry(Sandra) Harp of Sevierville, TN, and Ricky Harp of Pleasant Shade, TN, Brother, Elder Arvil Dean Kelley of Lebanon, Sister, Gracie Hargis of Lafayette, 43 Grandchildren, 47 Great-Grandchildren, and numerous Great-Great Grandchildren.
