Obituary of Earlene Cothron

Earlene Cothron, age 83 of Lafayette passed away on Monday morning, June 4, 2012 at Macon County General Hospital. Funeral services for Earlene Cothron were conducted on Wednesday, June 6 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Joel Plunkett and Andy Alexander officiating. Jason Cothron, Adam Cothron, James Cothron, John Cothron, April Cothron, and Bill Stephens served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens. Dorothy Earlene Cothron was born on November 2, 1928 in Macon County, Tennessee to the late John Jackson Dallas and Lydia Ruth Green Dallas. She was one of eight children born to this union. On February 2, 1945, she was married to the love of her life, Lewis Gregory Cothron. They made a home and started a family, raising three sons. Earlene started out as a seamstress and later went to work managing the Macon County Drive-in for a few years. Then Earlene and Lewis decided to start their own business, Cothron's Grocery working side by side, until retiring in 1990. After they sold the store, she stayed home and took care of Lewis, whose health had begun to deteriorate. Lewis passed away on August 27, 1992. Besides Earlene's husband and parents; one brother, Donald Dallas also preceded her in death. Earlene enjoyed working in her vegetable garden each year and putting up her harvest. She continued to do some sewing in her retirement years, but what she loved most of all was being a volunteer at the Nursing Home. Earlene loved being with the residents there and helping out. Earlene was the kind of person you always enjoyed being around. She was a very caring and dedicated, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a member of Walton's Chapel Church of Christ. Earlene will be greatly missed by her family, church family, and many friends.
