Obituary of I. T. Cook

I.T. Cook, age 79, of Lafayette, TN passed away Thursday, afternoon, June 14, 2012 at his residence. Funeral Services for I. T. Cook were conducted Sunday June 17, at 2 pm from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Wix and Elder Jeff Likens officiating. Interment followed in the Shrum Cemetery. Elaine Patterson, Amy Linville, Lori Gocha, Dwayne Colter, Nathan Morgan, Jason Meador, Kristi Meador, Kayla Sircy, and Kaysi Crowder served as Pallbearers. I. T. Cook was born on November 20, 1932 in Sumner County, Tennessee to the late George and Lillie Jones Cook. He was one of six children born to this union. Besides his parents; brother, George Allen Cook, sisters, Maggie Anderson and Cammie Simons, infant twin brother, J. T. Cook, half-brothers, Lewis, Ernie, and Chesley Wix, Denvil, Grover, Jessie, Weston, and Floyd Cook, and half-sisters, Idella Johns, Polly Wix, Dona Sloan, Toy Sloan, and Ottie Pedigo also preceded him in death. In 1951, I. T. joined the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War. He returned home on a break from the military and on August 7, 1952, I. T. married the love of his life, Frances "Tootsie" Freeman. He had to travel back to New York where he was stationed until he received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1954. He returned home to his wife's side to start a family. Together they raised four daughters. I. T. enjoyed some aspect of farming for most of his life. He had owned and operated a country store for several years, and he had operated a pay lake from his farm in the Rocky Mound Community. I. T. really did not have one career during his life. He was always willing to make a deal or a trade to make a living for his family. He worked at the Macon County Justice Center when it first opened, and he made many friends during this time. Also, he had raised and sold produce for the last several years. I. T. had numerous repeat customers that he enjoyed talking with when they came by to get their produce. Most importantly, he was saved in a section of woods while logging timber. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. I.T. is survived by; wife, Frances "Tootsie" Cook, daughters, Annette and husband Donnie Morgan, Paulette and husband Dennis Colter, Myra and husband Mark Burton, and Carol Rich all of Lafayette, granddaughters, Elaine and husband Glenn Patterson, Lori and husband Kevin Gocha, Amy and husband Jeremy Linville, Kristy Meador, Kayla Sircy, and Kaysi Crowder all of Lafayette, grandsons, Dwayne and wife Christy Colter of Lafayette, Nathan and wife Brittney Morgan of Murfreesboro, and Jason and wife Deanna Meador of Gallatin, step-grandson, Spencer Burton of Lafayette, sister, Flossie Jenkins of Westmoreland, and 12 Great-grandchildren.
