Obituary of Pluma Evert Merritte

Pluma Merritte, age 88 of Lafayette, Tennessee passed away Wednesday afternoon June 20, 2012 at The Palace Care and Rehab in Red Boiling Springs. Funeral Services for Pluma Merritte were conducted on Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Jimmy Thompson officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were, David Merritte, Scotty Gass, Christopher York, Jimmy Allen Merritte, Randall Stafford, and Jamie Gregory. Interment followed in the Drury Cemetery. Pluma Merritte was born on May 23, 1924 in Macon County, Tennessee to the late Dink Lonas and Lela Pearl King Shrum. She was one of five children born to this union. Pluma was united in marriage on August 5, 1950 to Lennie Eugene Merritte, whom most people referred to as L. E. for short. Pluma and L. E. spent 55 years together and raised two sons and two daughters. L. E. preceded her in death on September 5, 2005. Besides her parents and husband; sisters, Calcie Drury and Opal Cook also preceded her in death. Ms. Pluma became a homemaker and started housekeeping and raising her children as soon as she married. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her children and grandchildren. She cherished the time that she was able to spend with them. Her children said that she was a very "sweet mama." In Ms. Pluma's spare time, she enjoyed reading the bible. Although Ms. Pluma did not attend church every Sunday, she was of the Missionary Baptist Belief, and most importantly, she had told her family that she had been saved. She has finished her labors down here on Earth and is now in Heaven. The family and many friends will miss Pluma down here on earth, but our loss is Heaven's gain. Pluma is survived by; Sons and Daughters-in-law, Billy (Lynn) Merritte, and James Merritte all of Lafayette, TN, Daughters, Brenda (Joe Hillous) York of Red Boiling Springs, TN, and Peggy Patterson of Lafayette, TN, Grandchildren, Christy (Randall) Stafford of Lafayette, TN, Brandy (Derek) White of Bowling Green, KY, Tracy (James) Cooper, and Jimmy (Sara) Merritte of Lafayette, TN, Christopher (Christy) York of Edmonton, KY, Scotty (Diana) Gass of Lafayette, TN, Beth (Charlie) Kiper of Nashville, TN, and Tina (Jose) Hernandez of Lafayette, TN, eleven Great Grandchildren also survive.
