Obituary of Mary Callie Rushing

Mary Callie Haley was born in Macon County, on May 17, 1931 to the late Robert Allen Haley and Bertie Edna Meador Haley. She was one of eight siblings born to this union. On January 28, 1950, Mary was married to the love of her life, Calvin Roy Rushing. They shared thirty-six years together and had two children. Calvin preceded her in death on August 1, 1986. Besides her husband and parents, daughter, Mary Ruth Rushing, and son, Calvin Roy Rushing, Jr., brother, Baxter Haley, sisters, Fannie Campbell, Ruth Woodard, Roma Smith, and Bessie Mae Whitaker, also preceded her in death. She worked for Knollwood Manor for twenty-five years. Mary worked as an Activity Director and was a Certified Nursing Assistant. She loved to help others, so this job was very fitting for Mary. If possible, she would attend the funeral home for every family. Mary also enjoyed her farm and raising her goats and goat dogs. You could often go by the farm and find Mary feeding and petting them. She was active with the Macon County Alumni Association and a member of the Days Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. On Sunday, October 14, 2012, the Lord called Mary home. She is now with her husband and children, that she had missed so much. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends at Knollwood Manor. She is survived by; Sister, Gracie Ward of Lafayette, TN, Brother, W. B. Haley of Satellite Beach, Florida, Special Friend, Earnest Hall, and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. A Funeral Service for Mary Rushing was conducted on Tuesday, October 16, at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Jeff Blackwell and Brother Jerry Gammon officiating. Serving as Active Pallbearers were Bobby Ward, Zach Ward, Gary Brawner, Mike Kirby, Zach Scott, and Eric Hall. David Hurst, Jerry Ward, Ernest Hall, and Wayne Hall served as Honorary Pallbearers.
