Obituary of Macie Mai Hickman

Macie Mai Linville Hickman was born Wednesday, July 8, 1914 in the Clampit Hollow of Macon County, Tennessee and entered her eternal rest on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Knollwood Manor at the age of 98. She was born the fifth child to Elder Herley Smith Linville and Lillian Daisy Carr Linville. Macie was married to William Paul Hickman on Friday, February 26, 1936. Paul and Macie made their residence, for most of their sixty-one years of marriage, in Madison, Tennessee. She was employed during the war efforts of World War II at Southern Manufacturing Company making uniforms for the U.S. Army and Navy. She received an award for excellence in war production. She spent most of her life as a devoted wife and homemaker. She loved her garden, flowers, housework, cooking and especially cooking for others. Macie was saved at Rocky Mound Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. Her husband, Paul passed away on August 22, 1997 after more than sixty-one years of marriage. After Paul's death, Macie moved to Joelton, Tennessee and then moved to her last home in Macon County, Tennessee. After suffering a stroke in 2007, she moved to Knollwood Manor. She is survived by her dear, loving sister, Rosie Lee Linville Sullivan of the Rocky Mound Community in Macon County, and by several nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides her husband and parents, brother, Wallace Linville, sisters, Mary Lou Flatt, Avie McWhirter, Gladys Howser, and Virgie Dobbs Burroughs, special nephews, J.D. McWhirter and Jerry Douglas Howser, also preceded her in death. Macie will be missed by all who ate at her table and enjoyed her love. Even during her last days, she brought joy to those who loved her. The staff at Knollwood Manor lovingly became her extended family. Funeral services for Macie Hickman were conducted on Wednesday, November 7, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Harold King officiating. Terry Howser, Jerryn Howser, Bryan Jenkins, Walter Andrews, Jackie Cline, and Tony Owen served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Rocky Mound Cemetery.
