Obituary of Minus Akers

Minus Akers was born in Virgie, Kentucky on October 4, 1946 to the late Nelson and Victoria Bartley Akers. He was one of five siblings born to this union. Minus married the love of his life the former Loriene Elswick on July 24, 1965, sharing forty-seven years together and raising five sons, Loriene survives. Besides his parents; brother, Philmore Akers, sister, Marie Little, and grandchildren, Briana Victoria and Bobby Cheyenne Akers also preceded Minus in death. Minus spent several years in Eastern Kentucky working in a Coal Mine. As a young man, he also spent about seven years working for Ford Motor Co. in Michigan. Minus enjoyed spending his spare time working on cars and picking up scrap metal. Minus was a member of the Lafayette Seventh Day Adventist Church. On January 1, 2013, the Lord called Minus home. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Funeral services for Minus Akers were conducted Wednesday at 6 pm from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral with Brother Mitch Barfield officiating. Interment followed in the Elswick Cemetery in Virgie KY. Minus is survived by; Wife, Loriene Akers, Sons, Robert (Tracy) Akers, James (Alice) Akers all of Lafayette, TN, Raymond Akers of Cynthiana, KY, Russell (Lisa) Akers of Westmoreland, TN, Coy (Donna) Akers of Pikeville, KY, Sisters, Clearsie Elswick, and Vestie Elswick both of Virgie, KY, eleven Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren also survive.
