Obituary of Olie E. Harper

Mr. Olie Estes Harper was born in Lafayette, TN on July 15, 2015 to the late Walter B. Harper and Martha Emaline Meador Harper. Olie was one of twelve siblings born to this union. As a young man, Olie married the love of his life, Myrtle L. Perdue, and raised four children, Toney, Leslie, John, and Mary. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He worked as a Licensed Tree Surgeon for several years, before going into United States Army. Olie served in the Army from December 15, 1943 until January 23, 1946 during World War II. He was stationed with the 534th Engineers Boat and Shore Regiment. The ship that Olie served on was among the convoy that endured the famous typhoon that raged through the China Sea during the fall of 1945. Olie received the WWII Lapel Button and the WWII Victory Pin for his tour of duty. Olie went to work as an employee of Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation in May 1942. His career with Tri-County stretched over many departments during his years of service. Olie started climbing the ladder as Lineman, Foreman, Construction Superintendent, then Area Supervisor, until his retirement on December 31, 1977. Olie was a member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge #543 F&AM receiving his Master Mason Degree on August 12, 1947; he also received his 50 year pin in 1997. Olie was also a member of the Scottish Rites KCCH, Eastern Star, Odd Fellows, and served as Master in 1970, 1975, and 1979. On September 29, 1986, Ms. Myrtle passed away. Besides his wife and parents, brothers, Joe Harper, Hollis Harper, Leslie Harper, Albert Harper, Sr., and Billy Wayne Harper, sisters, Ossie King, Elizabeth Blankenship, Bessie Hauskins, and Geneva Harper, also preceded him in death. Olie was a dedicated member and a Deacon of Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. On February 25, 2013, the Lord called his faithful servant home. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, but our loss is Heaven's gain. Mr. Olie is survived by; Sons, Tony Harper of Lafayette, Leslie and wife Wanda Harper of Nashville, John and wife Darlene Harper of Lafayette, and Daughter, Mary and husband Bill Miller of Scottsville, KY, Brother, Bob and wife Betty Harper of Somerset, KY, and Sister, Ida Willis of Hazel Park, Michigan, Grandchildren, Angie Brown, Billy Joe Miller, Jackie Morel, Alison Reyna, Bryan Harper, Brad Harper, and Richie Harper, Great- Grandchildren, Brittany and Bethany Brown, Christopher Cregger, Kara Harper, Dylan Harper, Jaxson Leonard, Micayla Harper, Serenity Harper, Ally Miller, and Dana Harper, Great-Great-Grandchild, Alayna Harper, and life-long friends, Pete Driver, and Jack Thomas Morgan also survive.
