Obituary of Rusaw Carter

Charles Rusaw Carter, age 90, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at his home in the Galen community. He was born Sunday, February 18, 1923, in Macon County. Rusaw was one of ten children born to David and Victoria Carter. He grew up and attended school in the Galen community. If you have spent much time around Rusaw, you know that he loved to tell a good joke or story. The most precious story he ever told was the one of being saved. He was a sixteen year old boy on his way home from church, and the Lord saved his soul "In the curve on the Galen Road" not far from his house. A second story was about the love of his life. He had his eye on a beautiful, young Blankenship girl who lived down the road. There was a community event at the Galen Schoolhouse, and Ms. Blankenship had made a cake for the cakewalk. Rusaw was determined to have that cake, so he outright bought it before it ever made it to the walk. Rusaw married the former Lena Frances Blankenship on December 28, 1944 in Franklin, Ky. He was 21 years old, and she was sixteen. There were four sons born to this union. After marriage, Rusaw lived in or around the Highland, Pumpkintown, Enon and Galen Communities and worked as a Rawleigh salesman. After a period of time, he went to work at the County's school garage and also drove a school bus. For many years, regardless of his primary job, he also farmed cattle and tobacco. He spent the last of his working years as a carpenter. Rusaw loved and served his church and community. He was ordained as a deacon of the church on August 31, 1980. He served his community as a county commissioner for one term. Along with work, Rusaw also liked to have fun. He loved to hear and tell a good joke. He also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and spending time with his family. Rusaw is survived by; His wife, Frances, four sons, Tom (Sandra) Carter, Skip (Lavonda) Carter, Danny (Betty) Carter, and Ronnie Carter, six grandchildren, James (Betty Lou) Carter, Chris (Johnna) Carter, Leslie Lynn, Allison (Brad) Hood, Eric and Jared, one step grandson, Shawn Turner, four great grandchildren, Eli Carter, Josh Sturges, Carter Lynn and Ella Jane Hood, four step great-grandchildren, Dale, Morgan, Bailey, and Macy Turner, and a host of extended family member and friends.
