Obituary of Imogene Shrum

Imogene Shrum was born in Macon County, Tennessee on May 15, 1922 to the late Charlie Trenton Day and Cynthia Arlie McDonald Day. She was one of ten siblings born to this union. As a young fourteen year old girl, Imogene was saved and later joined Days Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member. Imogene was married in June of 1943 to Thomas "Arvel" Shrum, better known as Arvel, sharing forty-three years together and raising one son, Dewey. Imogene was a stay at home mom and worked on the farm. She helped Arvel work in the tobacco fields. She also enjoyed raising a vegetable garden and canning the harvest. In the winter time Imogene liked to sew and quilt. She also loved crocheting and doing embroidery work. Imogene's family was what her life revolved around. Arvel passed away on September 27, 1986. Besides her husband and parents; brothers, Ottis Day, Oddis Day, and Henry Day, sisters, Lassie Brooks, Jewel Thomas, and Pluma Day also preceded Imogene in death. On June 15, 2013, the Lord called Imogene to her new home. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but our loss is Heaven's Gain. Funeral Services for Imogene Shrum will be conducted Tuesday, June 18th at 2 pm. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Tony Day officiating. Tommy Coulter served as Honorary Pallbearer. Ricky Day, Bobby Day, Dee Brooks, Gary Keene, Roger Day, Teddy Mahaney, Terry Tucker, and John Wezet served as Active Pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Nelson McDonald Cemetery. Imogene is survived by; Son, Dewey Randel Shrum of Lafayette, TN, Brother and sister-in-law, Oliver (Le) Day of Indianapolis, IN, Sisters, Christine Willis, and Loretta Brooks both of Lafayette, TN, several nieces and nephews also survive Alexander Funeral Home, Directors, in charge of arrangements.
