Obituary of Gracie Gross Smith

Gracie Lillian Smith was born in Lafayette, Tennessee on January 19, 1925 to the late Haley Gross and Janie Sexton Gross. She was one of seven siblings born to this union. As a young girl, Gracie was married to the love of her life Corbin Windell Smith. They shared fifty wonderful years together and had four daughters and one son. Gracie loved taking care of her home and family, they always came first. Later in life she worked for Carter Automotive for twenty years, before retiring in 1988. She was a strong woman; that did not lose faith. Gracie lived through the Depression, she was a Breast Cancer survivor, and sadly lost three daughters, Shirley Brooks, Carolyn Smith, and Martina Nelson, and later her husband, Corbin in 1990. Besides her husband, daughters, and parents; brothers, Hosey Gross, William Gross, Eugene Gross, and James Gross, and sisters, Mary Williams and Nelly Coley also preceded her in death. Gracie loved to travel and her favorite hobby was quilting. She made quilts for nearly every grandchild and great-grandchild. The holidays were made very special by Gracie for her grandchildren, and they will always hold tight to those memories. She was saved and joined Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church where Gracie remained a member. On Saturday, June 27, 2013, the Lord called Gracie to her new home. She is now walking with Corbin and admiring the beautiful view. Her family and many friends will greatly miss her, but our lost is Heaven's Gain.
