Obituary of Roxie Fishburn

Roxie Mae Fishburn was born in Macon County, Tennessee on December 11, 1927 to the late Samuel Witt Cook, and Virgie Paradyne Caruthers. She was one of seven siblings born to this union. Roxie was saved in October of 1944 at the age of sixteen, at Spring Creek Missionary Baptist Church. On October 1, 1961, she was baptized and joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she remains a member. Roxie was married on October 27, 1945 to Estel Fishburn for almost thirty years. They raised two sons and one daughter, Carl, Jerry, and Betty. Roxie and Estel ran two country stores, one in the 1950's and one in the 1960's. Estel passed away on May 29, 1975. Besides her husband and parents; one son, Jerry Fishburn, brothers, Cordell Cook, Carlos Cook, and Abe Cook, and sister, Lillie Cook Kinnard also preceded Roxie in death. Roxie was a homemaker, but also worked at Form-Fit Rogers and later at the 5&10 and the hospital. She was a past member of the Eastern Star. When it came to flowers, she had a green thumb and enjoyed working in them. She liked to piece Quilts and was also an excellent cook. Roxie enjoyed making meals for her family and friends. Family was Roxie's greatest treasure and she cherished them all. On Saturday, July 13, 2013, Roxie was called to a home where the roses never fade. She is now enjoying time with the ones who had left before her. Roxie will be missed by her family here, but our loss is Heaven's gain. Funeral services for Roxie Fishburn were conducted Tuesday, July 16th, at 1 pm from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Harold Dean Linville officiating.
