Obituary of Alice Rhoads

MS. ALICE "CHRISTINE" RHOADS-age 88 of Lafayette and formerly of the Winklers Community passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Knollwood Manor in Lafayette. Funeral Services for Ms. Alice Christine Rhoads were conducted on Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Floyd Ferguson and Elder Anthony Hale officiating. James Edgar Parkhurst, Brian Driver, Marvin Hendrix, Ryan Rhoads, Jeremiah Copas, David Turner, Gary Wheeler, Micah Rhoads served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Bethany Church Cemetery. She was one of five children born to W. C. (Clarence) Barton and Clara Gregory Barton of Macon County. Besides her parents, one brother, Hobart Barton and one sister, Pauline Jenkins preceded her in death. On June 29, 1940 Christine was united in marriage to Lewis Edsel Rhoads., who passed away on November 16, 2002. She is survived by her five children: Joel Rhoads, Jenny Brown, Faye Bray, Don and Katie Rhoads, and Ronnie and Marilyn Rhoads, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Carroll and Brownie Barton of Lafayette and one sister, Frances Williams of the Difficult Community in Smith County, and several nieces and nephews. Christine was saved when a young girl and united with Union Missionary Baptist Church. Later after her marriage, she became a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a devoted member, attending church as long as her health permitted. Her life was spent in serving our God and in caring for her family. Her dearest wish was that all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren be saved. She was a sweet mother, wife, grandmother, and sister who never complained; but gave God glory by the life that she lived. Christine loved singing and today she is in the presence of a host of singers whose voices of praise will never be silenced throughout eternity. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, but we can take great comfort in the blessed assurance that now she is safely at home and at rest in the arms of Jesus.
