Obituary of Oakley Samantha McClanahan

Oakley McClanahan, age 82 of Lafayette, TN passed away June 19, 2011 at Macon County General Hospital. Funeral Services for Oakley McClanahan were conducted Wednesday, at 2 p.m. from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Harold Dean Linville officiating. J. C. Hall, Joe Reid, Bubba (Johnny Wade), Chris Scotte, Daniel Driver, and Steven Reid served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Hartsville Memorial Gardens. Oakley was born on October 10, 1928 to the late Benjamin Franklin and Willie Mai West Underwood. She was one of ten children born to this union. In 1952, she was married to James Bonell McClanahan. They shared forty-two year together and raised five children. Oakley and James enjoyed spending their time together fishing. He preceded her in death in February of 1996. Besides her husband and parents; grandson, Christopher Scott McClanahan, brothers, Frank Underwood, and Ivy Gene Underwood, sister, Estelle Underwood, and brother-in-law, James Thomas, also preceded her in death. She liked being a homemaker and a stay at home Mom. Caring for family was top priority to her. Oakley was gifted at quilting and embroidery. She had made many different pieces for her family. Cooking was something else she enjoyed doing. She could spend the day in her kitchen and be contented. She was known for her Banana Pudding and homemade biscuits. The table was always full at Oakley's house, when family and friends came to visit. She liked to show off her garden and all that she had canned. Oakley was saved as a young girl at home and was a member of the East Main Missionary Baptist Church. She had a personality that would make you smile and a heart of love; she will be missed. Oakley is survived by: Daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn (Randy) Reid of the Cedar Bluff Community in Macon County, TN, Janey (Gary) Trent of the Oakdale Community in Macon County, TN, and Kathy Ann Mungle , 640 Chitwood Drive, Lafayette, TN, Sons, Robert (Debbie) McClanahan of the Webbtown Community in Macon County, TN, and Johnny J. and wife Jacqueline McClanahan of the Mooningham Branch Community in Macon County, TN, Brothers, Roy D. (Lucy) Underwood of Smyrna, TN, and Bobby (Mamie) Underwood of the Hillsdale Community in Macon County, TN, Sisters, Hazel (Al) Babb, Lilly (Willie) Victory, Roberta Victory, and Pauline Thomas all of Smyrna, TN, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, also survive.
