Obituary of Emmie Dell Riley Hartwell

EMMIE DELL HARP RILEY HARTWELL - age 88 of Red Boiling Springs and formerly of Sycamore Valley Community in Macon County, passed away early on Friday, July 01, 2011 at the Palace Care and Rehab in Red Boiling Springs. Funeral services for Emmie Dell Hartwell were conducted on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, IN. Interment followed in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Cartersburg, IN. She was born Emmie Dell Harp, 2nd daughter of MacClaud and Ethel (Halliburton) Harp of Macon County, TN on November 5, 1922. Besides her parents, Em as she was affectionately known was preceded in death by; Siblings, Estes Harp husband of Flossie (Kelley) Harp of Lafayette, TN, Evell (Harp) Knight wife of Hovie Knight of Indianapolis, IN, and Doyle Harp husband of Evell (Pedigo) Harp of Lafayette, TN. Em spent her childhood in the Sycamore Valley Community of Macon County, TN surrounded by family and friends. There she attended and was saved and baptized into the Sycamore Valley Missionary Baptist Church. As a young woman, Em followed her older sister to Indianapolis, IN where she met and married the love of her life, Henry Floyd Riley, of Burkesville, KY. From this union were born 2 sons. Em and the boys lost her husband and their father in 1972. It was some 24 years later that she met her next great love, Samuel Francis Hartwell, when he moved into Greenwood Village Apartments where she resided. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married and spent a wonderful 5 years together before Sam's health failed and she lost him. After well over 50 years in Indiana, Em came to be in Macon County again moving near her oldest son and his wife, Steve and Lota Riley. Her younger son and his wife, Christopher and Laura Riley reside in Temple, TX. Em is also survived by; Grandsons, Nicholas Riley of Smithville, KS and Jason Riley of Austin, TX, Granddaughters, Jamie Liska of Phoenix, AZ and Andrea Riley of Austin, TX, 4 Great Grandchildren, and 18 nieces and nephews also survive.
