Obituary of Hazel Christine White

Hazel Christine (Deckard) White passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, the result of a stroke. She was 91. Mrs. White was born on November 7, 1925, in Macon County, Tennessee, to George Deckard and Sadie Cook Deckard, also of Macon County. She graduated from Macon County High School in 1944. She married the late James Robert White, a business owner and banking executive in Lafayette, in 1946. Mrs. White was a homemaker, teacher's aide and, more recently, a rural letter carrier. She retired in 1991 and dedicated her remaining time to flower and vegetable gardening on the family farm in Maple Grove. She was a life-long devoted member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. White loved natural beauty and was an energetic flower gardener. Her home was surrounded by lush flower gardens which she also captured in water color paintings. She was a member of the Lafayette Garden Club. Mrs. White is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Nancy White of Lafayette; son Keith White of Franklin, TN, son and daughter-in-law Brian and Carol White of Huntersville, NC; sister Margie Ferrin of Oklahoma City; Opal Johnson of Lafayette and Shirley White of Stanford, KY. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. White will be buried in the Macon County Memorial Gardens on January 13, 2017. The funeral will be held at Alexander Funeral Home at 12:00 Noon with burial following. Visitation will take place on January 12, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on January 13, from 9 a.m. until the funeral service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mrs. White's life.
