Obituary of Donald "Don" Slepski

Donald “Don” Slepski, age 78 of Gallatin, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017.  Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 19th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with Father Stephen Gideon as Celebrant.  Interment will follow in Crestview Memory Gardens with Roger Stevens, Tony Cameli, Jim Holleran, Greg Nycz, Joe Fertitta and Jim Opalek serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Don Franklin, Bob Johnson and Ken Holda.  Visitation will be Thursday, May 18th from 4:00-7:30 p.m. at Family Heritage Funeral Home with Rosary at 3:30 p.m. prior to the visitation. Mr. Slepski was born May 31, 1938 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Theodore Vincent Slepski and Mildred Rose Zapp Slepski.  He is survived by wife of 56 years, JoAnne Kowandy Slepski of Gallatin; son, Ron Slepski of Aliso Viejo, CA; daughter, Susan O’Kane (Rory) of Durham, NC; beloved granddaughter, Arynn O’Kane of Durham, NC; sister, Joyce Slepski and niece, Gretchen Vickers (Greg) of Willow Springs, IL;  mother-in-law, Irene Kowandy of Gallatin; step-grandchildren, Rory James O’Kane, Jr. and Collin O’Kane.  Mr. Slepski worked for R. R. Donnelly Printing Company from 1957-1994.  He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 10010 where he was an originator of their annual St. Patrick/St. Joseph dinner.  Also, he was a former member of Gallatin Kiwanis Club where he served as past president and served as Lt. Governor KT District.  Don was an avid woodcrafter, building the altar at St. John Vianney Catholic Church; co-founder of Gallatin Habitat of Humanity and loved playing the role of Santa for work, church and local elementary schools.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 449 North Water, Gallatin, TN  37066 or Michael J.
