Obituary of Alden Johnny Nelson

NELSON, Alden Johnny "A. J.", age 94 of Hendersonville passed away June 22, 2017. Mr. Nelson was the last surviving member of Roy Acuff's Smoky Mountain Boys. He performed on many USO tours for the troops during Vietnam. He was a recognized craftsman of stringed instrument repair and enjoyed entertaining. Mr. Nelson also served in the US Navy during WWII. He loved spending time with family and friends, going to the beach and was an animal lover.

Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by parents, Elzie and Georgie Ann Nelson; brothers, Doyle Nelson, Noble Jack Nelson and Waldo Nelson; and sister, Flois Collier. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margaret Nelson; children, Carolyn (Larry) Fosbinder and Johnny (Linda) Nelson; grandchildren, Sumer (Ty) Jones, Dina (Daryl) Spicer, Nicole (Jimmy) Cates, Brian Fosbinder, Robyn (D. W.) Prescott and Robert (Carolina) Graham; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Gus, Cameron, Tanner, Emarie, Nate, Braddock and Blaine; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved cat, Oreo.

Funeral service will be held Monday, June 26th at 11:00 am at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with Bro. Chet Murral officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens with Ty Jones, Daryl Spicer, Jimmy Cates, Tanner Jones, Jamie Nelson, Matt Collier, Jerry Fraley, Jr. and Jordan Fraley serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, June 25th from 4-8 pm and Monday, June 26th from 10 am until time of service.
