Obituary of John R. Doss Jr.

John R. Doss Jr., age 94 of Gallatin passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017.  Funeral Service will be Sunday, November 12th at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home (100 Albert Gallatin Avenue), with Bro. Charles Williams officiating.  Visitation will be Saturday, November 11th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 12th from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m.  Interment, with Military Honors, will follow the service at Crestview Memory Gardens, with Aaron Doss, John Laux, Ashtin Potridge, Paul Renfro, Jonathan Gray, and Nathan Pryor serving as pallbearers. 

Mr. Doss was born June 28, 1923 in Scottsville, VA to the late John R. Doss, Sr. and Lelia Virginia Bowman.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Ruth Pryor Doss; brothers, William “Bill” Austin Doss and Bob Mahoney; and sisters, Bertha Mae Edwards and Christine Martin.  He is survived by sons, John R. Doss III (Diana) of Nashville and Robert Doss (Lauri) of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Betty Renfro (Paul) of Granville; 5 grandchildren, Michelle Renfro, Suzanne Laux (John), Aaron Doss, Haley Mason, Ashtin Potridge (Courtney); and 5 great grandchildren, Olivia Grace Doss, Avery James Mason, Isabelle Alice Doss, Luke David Laux, and Issac Robert Laux.  During World War II, Mr. Doss served our country in the United States Army.   After receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, he returned to Virginia where he and Ruth were married.  Mr. Doss was a member of Gallatin Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon and Elder.  After 30 years of service, he retired from the United States Postal Service.  Mr. Doss farmed for many years and provided welding and other metalwork services for other farmers and commercial businesses.    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highpoint Hospice, 300 Steam Plant Road, 2ndfloor Suite 220, Gallatin, TN 37066 or to Meals on Wheels, 200 East Franklin Street, Gallatin, TN 37066.  Online condolences may be submitted at alexanderheritagefh.com.
