Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Edgar Newgarden

Surrounded by his family, Joseph (Joe) Edgar Newgarden, Jr. passed away at home Sunday, November 26, 2017 after a 9- month battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.  He was born July 4, 1929 in Westport, NY to the late Joseph Sr. and Dorothea Newgarden.  From an early age, Joe exhibited a love of both photography and ping-pong.  He was able to channel these interests into building two successful businesses, Nationwide Studios and Newgy Industries, which allowed him to positively affect the lives of hundreds of people.  Joe was a father-figure and mentor to many.  He was a wonderful family man, business man, and philanthropist, who had a heart for children and the disadvantaged.  Quick with a smile or kind word, he was a true gentleman.  He was preceded in death by his brothers Arthur, Jack, and Raymond; brothers-in-law Cliff Chappell and Jack Ahlquist.  He is survived by sisters, Nancy Talbot, Barbara Chappell, Sue Sales (John), Peggy Newgarden; sisters-in-law Cynthia Newgarden and Grace Ahlquist; children Nancy Putnam (Andy), Marion Nadeau (Jack), Alice Newgarden, Joey Newgarden, Teri Wilkes (Whitt), Margaret Jordan (Russ), Carrie Newgarden, Jena Newgarden, Joleta Crook (Cody), 21 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Throughout his illness, Joe was with his family in the comfort of his own home.  The family would like to thank High Point Hospice and Comforcare for their professionalism and dignity in the care they provided.

Family visitation will be held from 1pm to 3pm, Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home, 100 Albert Gallatin Avenue, Gallatin, TN, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate in Joe’s name to his favorite charity, the Christmas 4Kids organization.  Online condolences may be submitted at alexanderheritagefh.com.  Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home has been honored with arrangements.
