Obituary of Cassie Ethelene Wheeler Ray

Mrs. Cassie Ethelene Wheeler Ray, age 91, Gallatin, entered into eternal rest February 7, 2018, with family by her side.  Mrs. Ray was born in Sumner County on December 6, 1926. She lived most of her life on her farm in the New Deal Community.  She was a member of Halltown General Baptist Church.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl C. Ray, and son, James William Ray.  She was the last living child of the late Maggie Allen Wheeler and William Henry Wheeler, being also preceded in death by her nine brothers and sisters.   Brothers were Homer Wheeler, Cordell Wheeler, Dee Wheeler, and Wilburn Wheeler.  Sisters included Ruby Johnson, Lucille Allen, Thelma Bay, Willene Bentle, and Lois Dickson.  Mrs. Ray is survived by daughter, Brenda Ray Hester,  and son-in-law, Jerry Hester, Gallatin;  grandchildren, Bryan (Kim) Ray, Jamie Ray (Joe) Smith , Dr. Amanda Hester (Phillip) Williams, and Ashley Hester (Dr. John) Ayers;  great-grandchildren, Dre and Bryson Ray, Tristan and Alexa Smith, and Nora Adele Williams.  “Granny Ray” was deeply loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Visitation with the family will be at Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home, 100 Albert Gallatin Avenue, Gallatin, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, and 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11.  Mrs. Ray’s funeral service will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, from the chapel of Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Rev. Walt Warren officiating.  Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Franklin, Kentucky.  Family will serve as pallbearers.  Online condolences may be submitted at alexanderheritagefh.com.  Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home has been honored with arrangements.
