Heather Sullivan

Obituary of Heather Stokes Sullivan

Heather Stokes Sullivan of Mt Juliet, Tennessee, age 46, proud mother to Holden Rivers Sullivan and wife to Steve Sullivan, died on July 21, 2018 at her home. She fought a brave fight against breast cancer for four years and never gave up the hope for a miracle cure. Heather was a Christian, who lived her life full of Jesus, family, friends, and music. She spent her last days happily surrounded by everyone who loved her so much. Her last wish was to go to her “happy place”, which was the beach, and the family made the voyage in June of this year to celebrate her son’s 5th birthday.

Heather was born on January 6, 1972 in Greenville, Mississippi to Dale and Lillie Stokes. Heather was the baby girl of the family and she filled the house with her beautiful singing voice at a young age. Heather was a 1990 high school graduate of Deer Creek School and she went on to receive her college degree in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg in 1995.

Heather met the love of her life, Steve Sullivan, at the poker table, a place where she reveled in the competition as much as she did the socializing. They married on February 10, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada and welcomed a long, awaited son, Holden Rivers, on June 19, 2013. She was a member of Hickory Hills Baptist Church, where she took Holden to learn about Jesus. They had an agreement that Sunday was the only day he couldn’t wear camouflage.

Heather was an energetic career woman, whose path led her into commercial real estate, where her passion for people and real estate fit perfectly together in property management. Heather managed Summit Medical Center for many years. She recently had joined Cushman & Wakefield, where she was overjoyed at the opportunities ahead of her.

Heather and Steve owned Clementine’s Boutique in Mt. Juliet. The store had always been a dream of Heather’s and Steve helped make the dream come true. They poured their hearts and souls into the store and the people that shopped there from the Mt. Juliet community.

Heather spent many years as a regular fixture playing down on lower Broadway at the clubs and honkey – tonks, singing her heart out and entertaining the crowds. Her most recent music adventures lead her to Bold, Brave, and Beautiful, a women’s ministry where she shared her testimony and voice to encourage others.

Heather was preceded in death by her father, Dale Boise Stokes. She is survived by her mother, Lillie River Stokes (Hermitage, TN); Husband, Steven Lee Sullivan and Son, Holden Rivers Sullivan (Mt. Juliet); Brother, Dale Boise Stokes (Stoneville, Mississippi); Sister, Cindy Lou Stokes (AR) and Brother, Clay Stokes (TX).  Heather had 7 nieces, 3 nephews, 8 grand-nieces and 8 grand-nephews.

The family would like thank all of those who have truly cared, donated, and supported Heather through this time including: Dr. Hemphill, Tennessee Oncology, who worked tirelessly to get Heather into trials and cutting edge treatment; Dr. Angela Willis, for her amazing generosity of time and devotion; Alive Hospice; Jane, Erica, Kettie, and Susan for their help in navigating a path that nobody was ready to take; Sarah Cannon Research Institute, where Heather entered into trials in hope of helping others as well. Her spiritual guidance was led by Brother Jeff Whitener and his sweet wife, Kaye. Pastor Jim Toole had prayed with her in the final days.

Heather was grateful for everyone who shopped and worked at Clementine’s. Heather would end by saying “it is well with my soul”.
