Obituary of Ruby M. Plantinga

Ruby M. Plantinga, age 82 of Cottontown, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018.  Visitation will be Sunday, August 5^th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday, August 6^th from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home (100 Albert Gallatin Avenue).  Funeral Service will be Monday, August 6^th at 1:00 p.m. at Alexander Family Heritage Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Howie Cantrell officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with family serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Plantinga was born August 30, 1935 in Marshall, N.C. to the late James Bascombe Payne and Eula Jarrett Payne.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband of 57 ½ years, John J. “Jack” Plantinga, Sr.; brother, James Bascombe Payne, Jr.; and grandson, Jeff Jones III.  She is survived by sister, Nellie Payne of Charlotte, N.C.; son, John J. Plantinga, Jr. (Mindi) of Gallatin; daughters, Sandy Jones (Tommy) of Hermitage, Judy Brawner (Ron) of Gallatin, and Joyce Slawson (Randy) of Gallatin; grandchildren, Katie Witten (Doug), John Plantinga III (Caitlin), Tiffany Jones, James Brawner, Matthew Brawner (Heather), Justin Kitchens, Selena Poteete (Robert), Jennifer Moten (Jerry); granddaughter-in-law, Heather Jones; great-grandchildren, Mason Witten, Ben Witten, Ruby Kate Witten, Deacon Green, Gunner Plantinga, Dylan Dalton, Hayden Dalton, Ryan Rulo, Destynie Jones, Mykinzie Jones, Jeff Jones IV, Nicholas Jones, Addison Brawner, Hudson Brawner, Paige Poteete, Alex Poteete, Zac Poteete, and Jaxen Moten; niece, Patsy Worley; and nephew, Chris Payne.

Mrs. Plantinga was a Registered Nurse at Roseland Community Hospital and South Suburban Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN, 38101-9908).
