Obituary of Patricia Cook Major

Patti Cook Major, age 64, of Lebanon, passed away on October 22, 2018 after her third battle with cancer.  Patti was born in Corinth, Mississippi to Howard and Ruth Cook on August 26, 1954.

She moved to Nashville in 1977.  She worked for Security Bank in Corinth, MS and First Bank and Trust in Mt. Juliet.  She started Square Market, a furniture and home décor store, off the square in Lebanon, TN with her sister in 2015.

The most important part of Patti’s life was her family.  She was selfless and caring, generous and warm-hearted.  She loved nothing more than creating joy, happiness, and laughter for her family.  She was curious and interested in your life, kind and welcoming.  The lynchpin mastermind behind every gathering, she wanted everyone to have fun, feel welcome and accepted.

Patti will always be cherished and remembered.  She will be terribly missed.  She was a treasure to this world and to everyone lucky enough to know her.  She was a golden soul that will always shine.  She embodied smiles, joy, and love.

Patti was a skillful and talented artist.  She had an eye for design and beauty, and a vision that, when coupled with her dedicated nature, produced beautiful creations no matter the media or realm.  With paints, she would effortlessly create realistic scenes and abstract works.  A talented cook, she enjoyed trying new and inventive dishes.   Resourceful, she loved working with her hands and taking on inspired craft projects.  She would consistently reach for creative ways to form imaginative works of art.

She also loved diving into the spirit of holidays, decorating and celebrating with family.  This easily made Walt Disney World one of her favorite places in all the world to visit.  Here, she was able to combine the joy of creating wonderful memories with her loved ones and being immersed in imagination and art.  Late last year, she was able to travel with her family to Walt Disney World one last time, which has shown, ultimately, to be a true blessing from God.

Patti was strong, hard-working, and fearless.  She rose early and tackled every day with purpose and she conquered any project or idea she was set on.  She was tough as nails.  She first beat cancer 12 years ago and never looked back.  She believed nothing could stop her, because nothing ever had.  She was never one to complain and she wouldn’t let things get her down. And even though she’s gone, she left a trail of a life well-lived, full of smiles, laughter, happiness, and joy.  She always persevered.  As will her memory.

We were lucky and blessed to have had her in our lives.  We are proud of her and the impact she had on this world.  We will miss her terribly.  She is free now, she is no longer sick, and we all love her very much.

Patti is survived by her husband of 26 years, David Major; her parents, Howard and Ruth Cook; daughter Jessica Tow Klingler (Jesse Klingler); grand-children Bella and Major Klingler; sister Cindi Cook Irwin (Carl Irwin); sons Paul Major and Jay Major (Rebecca Carey); daughter Kate Major (Blaine Tucker) of Baton Rouge, LA; grand-children Hudson, Gabriella, and Sophia Tucker; nieces Hanna Cole (Andy Cole) and Caroline Upthegrove; nephew Davis Irwin; great nephews Tate Copeland, John Davis Upthegrove, Ty Upthegrove, and Kylin Irwin.

The family will hold a celebration of life and visitation Thursday, October 25th, from 6-8pm at Sellar’s Funeral Home, 313 West Baddour Parkway, Lebanon, TN 37087.  In lieu of flowers, we are asking that you send donations, in her name, to Wilson County CASA, attn: Cathey Sweeny, 111 Castle Heights Ave, Lebanon, TN 37087.
