Obituary of Ula Mae House
Ula Mae House, age 87, passed away January 30th, 2019. Ula Mae Lemon was born to Lorenz and Alyce Lemon on June 8, 1931, at Lincoln General Hospital. Ula was raised on a farm in the Greenwood/Ashland area of Nebraska, where she would help her father by driving the tractor and hauling grain to the elevator. Ula attended Ashland High School for grades nine to eleven before moving to Pasadena, California for her twelfth year of school. She graduated from Pasadena City College at the Rose Bowl in 1949.
Schooling introduced Ula to one of her passions in life, cosmetology. For ten years, she was a beautician, owning her own shop for the latter five years. Ula went on to work at Elgin in Lincoln, Western Electric in Omaha, and lastly LT&T in Lincoln, for more than 25 years, until her retirement in 1996.
On October 19, 1956, Ula married Wayne House. The two met on a blind a date and fell in love two years earlier while Wayne was in the service. The couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2018.
On Ula’s 28th birthday, June 8, 1959, the two welcomed their only child, Michael House, into the world. On her husband’s birthday in 1991, was the birth of their first grandchild, a grandson, and then the birth of a granddaughter three and a half years later.
Oil painting and other types of crafts were hobbies that Ula enjoyed over the years, as well as eating lunch out with “the girls”, bowling, and going to movies. When her two grandchildren came to visit from TN, she enjoyed cooking, baking, and playing cards and games with them. Watching and attending car races was also an interest she shared with Wayne.
She is survived by husband of 62 years, Wayne House; son, Mike (Kathy) House; grandson, Shane (Leah) House; granddaughter, Kylie House. She was preceded in death by parents, Lorenz and Alyce Lemon.
Ula will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Services will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln, NE.
