Obituary of Joe Tomlinson

Joe Howard Tomlinson, age 66 of Mt. Juliet, passed away on May 1, 2019.

He was known to many as “Uncle Joe” and “Big Joe” as well as “Poppa” and “Poppa Joe” to his grandchildren.  For many years, he worked in partnership with his brother, Jimmy, building homes throughout Wilson County as Tomlinson Construction.  As part of one of the original families of the city of Mt. Juliet, he was known for his storytelling about the community with several of his stories being published in the local papers in recent years.  He was a big man with a big heart which was evident by creating fundraisers and events to provide assistance to others throughout the community. These events would often involve the firing of his replica Civil War cannon.

He is survived by his daughters, Tiffany Tomlinson (Terry) Brown, and Rebecca Tomlinson (Michael Johnson) Hyde; grandchildren, Dalton Tomlinson, Teagan Brown, and Teclan Brown; sisters-in-law, Peggy Tomlinson (Homer) and Teresa K. Tomlinson (Jimmy).  He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Eula Tomlinson; brothers, Homer and Jimmy Tomlinson; grandfather, A.R. “Poppa” Tomlinson.

In honor of his long time commitment to the toy distribution through Mt. Juliet Big Brothers, memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots.

A private family service will be scheduled for a later date.
