Obituary of Christine "Chris" Maxedon

Christine “Chris” Maxedon, age 74 of White House, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019.  Funeral Service will be Tuesday, May 14^th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Bro. Mrs. Maxedon was born February 12, 1945 in Mortens Gap, KY to the late Jasper Wilkerson and Hazel Loretta Stearman Wilkerson.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Julian D. Maxedon; son-in-law, Harold Pryor; brother, Jay Wilkerson; and sisters, Josephine Harralson, Geraldine Wilkerson, Betty Dempsey, and Gale Roberson.  She is survived by son, Eric Maxedon (Valerie) of Goodletsville, TN; daughter, Julie Pryor of Wolf Creek, Montana; sister, Loretta Crowe of Madisonville, KY; and 2 grandchildren, Kayla Stutzman (Bug) and Zackery Maxedon.  Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com.  Family Heritage Funeral Home has been honored to assist with arrangements.

Marion Christine Maxedon, 74, of White House, TN

February 12, 1945, to May 3, 2019

Marion Christine Maxedon was born at her home in Hopkins County, KY, February 12, 1945, she was the baby of five sisters and one older brother. Her mother, Hazel Loretta Stearman Wilkerson, and father, Jasper Wilkerson, soon moved to Morton’s Gap with their seven children, and that is where Christine grew up with her lovingly large family; her siblings called her Chris, spoiling her every moment they could. It was not until recently that most of those closest to her just discovered her first name was Marion.

Her only living sister, Loretta, recalls, “She was the baby of some coddling sisters and brother: Josephine, Geraldine, Betty, Gale, me, and Jay. She was a happy child and always smiling.” Recently one of their nieces said, “Sorry to hear about Aunt Chrissy but God just needed a smiley face in Heaven.” Christine remained extremely close to her sisters her entire life.

Christine married Julian D.Maxedon in December 1963 and had two children, Eric and Julie. It was a strong marriage, and they loved one another completely and absolutely. They had a lot of laughter in their relationship with Julian’s amazing sense of humor and her ability to laugh at anything that came their way in good times and bad.

In 1981, Julian moved Chris, Julie, and Eric from their first home in Memphis to Shackle Island where he was hired as Minister of Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Chris worked for the Tennessee State Department of Education (TDOE) where she worked as the administrative assistant to the deputy commissioner of education. She served her community as a minister’s wife as well as being a great mother. This is where the family made life-long friends who became like family, far beyond her retirement.

Her husband, Julian, passed after a long battle with heart disease and leukemia on October 26, 2004. After losing the love of her life, Christine moved to White House, TN, to be closer to her grandchildren and her sisters.

Two years passed and she started seeing Bobby Worsham after a birthday party they both attended for his 3-year-old grandson. She and Bobby were in a relationship over 12 years, and during that time she became really close with his family. She was like a grandmother to his grandchildren in addition to already being a great grandmother to her own.

Christine exuded unconditional love for her families (plural on purpose), friends, and anyone else who needed her. She was supportive and helpful to many in her life whether they were related or not. If anyone needed her for anything, she would do her best to help. In 2004 she went with one of Julie’s dear friends, Chris Richardson, to Guatemala to meet his son, Carlos, for the first time. She insisted she go with him, that he not be alone, and this was only two months after her husband had passed away. She loved him like family and stayed in contact with them, even after they moved.  It says a lot about a person when they are given a nickname or two through life, and Christine had at least three: Chris, Chrissy, and Lyssa.

She had a special relationship with many in her family and community, and especially her son-in-law, Harold; they called each other “Lyssa.”  Her last days, she went out on her first trip to Wolf Creek, Montana, to visit him and Julie only to find that he had passed unexpectedly of a heart attack the very hour she and her daughter arrived on their flight. Tragically, the next day, she fell in their home after being life-flighted to Great Falls Hospital, she joined Harold on his journey May 3, 2019.

Christine is preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Loretta Stearman Wilkerson; father, Jasper Wilkerson; husband; Julian D. Maxedon; sisters, Josephine, Geraldine (beloved Aunt Gerry), Betty (beloved Aunt Betty), Gale and her brother, Jay; and her son-in-law, Harold, just two days before her passing.

She is survived by her sister, Loretta Crowe (Aunt Lo); son, Eric Maxedon and his wife, Valerie, and their two children, Kayla Stutzman and her husband, Dennis (prefers Bug) and Zack; and her daughter, Julie Maxedon Pryor, and her children by marriage, Harold Jessie, Wesley, and Caitlyn; many nieces and nephews; and her Chihuahua, Jake.
