Obituary of Reca Danielle Barwin

Dr. Reca Barwin passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at age 35.  The Funeral Service, conducted by Pastor Jeff Pratt and Brother Chris Dickens, is 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Immanuel Baptist Church (214 Castle Heights Ave), Lebanon TN. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, on Tuesday from noon until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until the service.  Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery will follow the service. Pallbearers:  David, Hayden, and Karson Rigsby, Greg Ray, Byron Adcock, Greg Hurst, and Brian Horowitz.

               Dr. Barwin is survived by mother Jan Reca Robinson Barwin, grandmother Robbie Robinson, numerous aunts, uncle, cousins, special friends Tyroma and David Rigsby, god-children Hayden, Bella, Eden, Karson, and Farrah Rigsby, who affectionally called her “Aunt Sassy”, honorary nieces Stella and Lakelynn Adcock, all of her special little friends at Tri-Star Stonecrest Medical Center Physical Medical Department.  She is preceded in death by grandfather Brother Billy Robinson.

               Dr. Barwin had an intense love for God and her family and friends that powered everything she did. She and her mother Jan had a special bond of family, friendship, and camaraderie, that made all things possible. She loved participating in church activities, travelling (she had been to all 50 states), theater, concerts, and time with her patients, including the Stroke Support Group. Dr. Barwin was a Lebanon girl through and through: “once a Blue Devil, always a Blue Devil”. She attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Lebanon.

               Dr. Barwin, Lebanon High School Class of 2002, became an Occupational Therapist after receiving her Doctorate from Belmont University.  She was named to the 2012 Class of Nashville’s Top 30 under 30 by Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-Middle Tennessee Chapter, awarded the Nashville Emerging Leader Award for Medical and Health Care Services in 2013, Board Member of the Year by the Nashville Junior Chamber in 2014, Leadership Nashville’s 39th class, and numerous other accolades.  She earned a biology degree and doctor of occupational therapy, both from Belmont University.  She served as President of the Nashville Junior Chamber, was a member of the Nashville Symphony Crescendo Club, the Belmont Alumni Board, The Belmont University Alumni Athletic Engagement Council, the Young Alumni Board, founder of Young Professional Nashville Zoo Roar Corp, and a member of the Lebanon Junior Women’s Club.  She was truly a dedicated and caring volunteer for many nonprofits and causes in Nashville, including the Nashville Zoo, where she did her Young Leaders Council board internship and continued to stay involved with the launch of its young professionals group.  Dr. Barwin was a Belmont Ambassador, and NELA award winner, an American Red Cross instructor, Vice President of the Alumni Group, 2009-2012, Phi Mu-Panhellenic alternate of the Nashville Alumnae Chapter, Philanthropy and Ritual Advisor for Theta Chapter, and Current Ritual Advisor of the Theta Chapter of Phi Mu.
