Obituary of James David Samples
SAMPLES, James “Jim” David, age 79 of Portland and formerly of Salem, West Virginia, passed away July 23, 2019. Mr. Samples was preceded in death by parents, Carl B. and Katherine Perrine Samples; brothers, William “Bill” Samples, Robert “Bob” Samples, Joseph “Joe” Samples and Edward “Ed” Samples; sister, Louise Buchannon. He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Josephine Quickle Samples; daughters, Carolyn (Brian) O’Connor of Murfreesboro, TN and Sharon (Stephen) Conquergood of Portland, TN; grandsons, Ashton O’Connor, Tyler O’Connor, Ian Conquergood, Maxwell “Max” Conquergood, Liam Conquergood and granddaughter, Rori Conquergood; brother, Richard “Dick” Samples; sister, Jean Samples; several nephews and nieces.
Jim attended Bristol High School. He retired as custodian for Harrison County Board of Education after 32 years. He loved country music; especially Hank Williams Sr. and Reba McEntire. He enjoyed gardening and painting. He loved late night milkshake dates with his beloved Josephine. He also loved to travel and especially enjoyed his trip to the Bahamas with his oldest daughter, Carolyn. He enjoyed watching old movies and cooking with his youngest daughter, Sharon.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27th at 11 am at Davis Funeral Home in Clarksburg, West Virginia with Brother John Freeman officiating. Interment will follow the service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Mt. Clare, West Virginia. Visitation with the family will be Friday, July 26th from 4-8 pm at Davis Funeral Home in Clarksburg.
