Obituary of Martha Elizabeth Jent

Martha Elizabeth Jent, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28th, 2020 at Knollwood Manor. The Funeral Service, conducted by Elder Jeff Blackwell, will be held on Sunday, March 1st, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service in Macon County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 29th from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, March 1st from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Martha Elizabeth Swift was born on June 20th, 1924 in the Flat Rock Community in Smith County, Tennessee to the late Thomas Jefferson and Daisy Flatt Swift. Martha came to visit a family member in Lafayette, Tennessee and met the love of her life, Ralph Sherman Jent. The two later wed in 1948 and became lifelong residents of Macon County. Martha supported Ralph’s position as the plant manager of Formfit Rogers (Silk Mill) for many years. In later years, they both went to work for TVA, where they retired. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 57 years, Ralph Sherman Jent; sister, Fannie Mae Hunter. She is survived by sons, Robert Sherman Jent of Knoxville, Tennessee, Don (Sherry) Jent of Lafayette, Tennessee; grandchildren, Amy Jent (Dale) Fryman of Lafayette, Tennessee, Jarrett (Rachael) Jent of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Lauren Jent, and Tyler Jent, both of Westport, Connecticut; great-granddaughter, Anna Elizabeth Hogan of Lebanon, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to express their gratitude to the administration, staff and nurses, past and present, of Knollwood Manor for their love and care of Mrs. Martha during her extended stay. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association (225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601).
