Obituary of Sandra Marie Kirk Jones

Sandra Marie Kirk Jones, age 68 of Gallatin, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020. Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, March 9th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Pastor Josh Wooten officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 8th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Monday, March 9th from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Middle Tennessee Alzheimer’s Association, 478 Craighead Street #200, Nashville, TN 37204. Mrs. Jones was born February 24, 1952 in Gallatin to the late James Carey Kirk and Bessie Lou Bradley Kirk. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brother, Thomas Kirk. She is survived by husband, of 30 years, John Wesley Jones of Gallatin; daughter, Candace Parker Bridges (Ben) of Nashville; step-children, Mickey Jones of Gallatin, Kimberly Jones of Westmoreland, and Karen J. Webb (Hank) of Hendersonville; brothers, James Kirk (Diane) of Portland, Ronald Kirk (Lynn) of Virginia, David Kirk (Ann) of Gallatin, and Kenneth Kirk of Gallatin; 2 grandchildren, Zadie Rose Bridges and Lucinda Jewel Bridges; 3 step-grandchildren, Will David Watson, Elyse Webb Leach (Ryan), and Madeline Webb Crawley (Clayton); 1 great grandchild, Harvey Paul Leach; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; and special friends and caregivers, Carol Parker and Sandra Lawrence, who she loved dearly. Sandra was gifted in making others feel special and loved. She was an artist, advocate for the arts and arts education. A graduate of Gallatin High School, she earned an Associate Arts Degree from Volunteer State Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Middle Tennessee State University. She was a painter, loved working with ceramics and pottery, and became an accomplished photographer. She created unique decorative pieces, refinished and restyled furniture and somehow found time to design landscapes emphasizing her love of flowers and the outdoors. She taught children and adult art classes at Volunteer State, was a member and past president of the Gallatin Arts Council, and ARTS-Sumner. She worked tirelessly to raise funds for the purchase and decoration of Christmas trees which adorn the Gallatin Public Library during the holiday season. She was instrumental in securing the annual Tuba Christmas program and brought the Nashville Ballet to the Palace Theater. One of her favorite projects was the New Millennium Mural just off the square in Gallatin on West Main Street, which was created of drawings by local elementary school children’s vision of the 21st Century. She had the vision, directed, designed and painted the colorful mural with community support. Sandra was a loving wife, mother, step-mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was very proud of her daughter Candace and her success in life, and her chosen career. As the family grew, she extended her love, warmth and compassion to all of the grandchildren. She admired their success in life, marriage and careers. Sadly, she will not be able to do that with granddaughters Zadie and Lucinda, nor great grandson Harvey. But her memory, spirit and love for them will never die. Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com. Family Heritage Funeral Home has been honored to assist the family.
