Obituary of Lenore Huibregtse Davis

Lenore Huibregtse Davis, 99, passed away on March 19, 2020. She was born on May 20, 1920 in “the little brown house” in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. She lived in that area throughout her young life and was a member of the Cedar Grove High School class of 1938. She attended Central College in Pella, Iowa, where she met and married her husband of fifty years, Raycliffe C. Davis. Together they moved to Oak Ridge, TN, where Raycliffe served in the Army Special Engineering Detachment and was later part of the ORNL Thermonuclear Division at Y-12. Lenore was an active member of the United Church in Oak Ridge where she belonged to Women's Circles, taught Sunday School and, as a member of the church Sew for Hope group, made over 100 hats for victims of cancer. She was an avid, long time member of the Friday bowling section of the Oak Ridge Woman's Club and of the Wednesday morning sewing group. She enjoyed all types of crafts and collecting books and memorabilia pertaining to Oak Ridge. She volunteered at the Oak Ridge Public Library and as a Gray Lady at Oak Ridge Hospital for many years. In 2010 Lenore moved to Lebanon, TN, to be near family. There she attended First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Questers Sunday school class. Besides her husband, Raycliffe, Lenore was preceded in death by her parents, J.A.and Minnie Huibregtse, her brothers, Donald, Wesley and Roland Huibregtse, and her sister Marjorie Neerhof. She is survived by her children, Karen (Tom) Whaley, Ruth (Sam) Cardwell and Edward (Kathy) Davis; grandchildren, Wayne (Jill) Whaley, Ben (Carah) Whaley, Chad (Erin) Whaley, Jill (Jason) Mikulecky, Julie (Steve) Belcher, Kent (Michelle) Cardwell, Audrey (KT Hiestand) Davis, Brad (Alexandra) Davis; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
