Obituary of Velvia Jean Heidel

Velvia Jean Heidel, age 78 of Gallatin, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020. A Life Celebration Service to honor Mrs. Heidel will be Saturday, August 8th at 12:00 p.m. at Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Bro. Jerry Peace officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, August 8th from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. The Graveside Service and Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sumner County Food Bank, 1021 Woods Ferry Road, Gallatin, TN 37066. Mrs. Heidel was born November 17, 1941 in Brush Creek, TN to the late Earl Franklin Eastes and Lee Ona Dedman Eastes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Andrew Heidel; brothers, Ray Eastes, Frank Eastes, Billy Eastes, Doyle Eastes, and James Eastes; sister, Julia Watts; sisters-in-law, Georgia Eastes and Frances Eastes; and brothers-in-law, Glenn Watts and Jim Askew. She is survived by son, Eric Andrew Heidel (Wendy) of Maryville, TN; sisters, Eleanor Andrews (Will) of Elizabethton, TN and Carolyn Askew of Franklin, TN; sisters-in-law, Sara Eastes of Watertown, Loveta Eastes of Ft. Worth, TX, Linda Eastes of Nashville, and Joann Eastes of Spartanburg, SC; 2 grandchildren, Joshua Andrew Heidel and Luke Joseph Heidel; and several nieces and nephews. Jean grew up in the Brush Creek Community. She graduated from Gordonsville High School. Mrs. Heidel then received a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee. She retired from teaching after many years of service in Sumner County as well as other Tennessee Counties, including Adult Education Classes. Mrs. Heidel was employed by Mid Cumberland Community Action Agency during the 1980’s, a member of DAR and First Families of Tennessee. She was very active in her community.
