Obituary of Danny Wright

Danny Wright passed away on July 4, 2020 at age 70. The Memorial Service, conducted by Brother Todd Elliot with the eulogy and prayer given by Brother Wayne Miller, is 7 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN. The family will begin receiving friends at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Thursday. The family requests that visitors wear masks. Mr. Wright worked for AT&T for 45 years, mainly as a Service Coordinator. He was a member of Pathways Fellowship. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Dillehay Wright, sons Keith (John Muise) Wright and Kyle (Mary) Wright, grandchildren Karlee Wright and Will Wright, sister Faye (David) Lloyd, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Milton and Vicie Crutcher Wright, and brothers Wayne Wright and Milton Wright Jr. Danny Wright was a staple of Mount Juliet athletics for the better part of three decades. He was the Senior Captain of the 1968 Mount Juliet Golden Bears football team. He was also a gritty Golden Gloves boxer and lettered in track. His love of sports and kids lead him down a path towards mentoring hundreds of MJ youngsters in a coaching career that spanned from the late 1960’s into the nineties. Danny was a founding member of both MJ youth football and Jr Pro Basketball, and was honored as such in a ceremony held at Charlie Daniels Park where a monument bearing his name, and the other founding members, resides permanently in recognition of his lasting contribution. He also coached many youth boxers and although not a founding member, he was a fixture of MJ Little League Baseball, as the longtime coach of the little league Mets and many MJ little league All-Star teams. He touched the lives of hundreds of families and no bridge was too far to help a young athlete achieve to his best ability and succeed both on and off the field. Aside from his family, these young sportsmen were the most important people in his life. Danny was also a lover of the outdoors. Hunting and horseback riding among the rolling hills of middle Tennessee was a joy and a passion all of his life. He loved to ride locally in Cedar Forest, but his adventures on Short Mountain near Woodbury and long trail rides in Big South Fork National park, were memories he truly treasured and often recounted. His heart was as big as all outdoors, and his selfless contribution to hundreds of young athletes, is a legacy that will continue to encourage and inspire for many years to come. Rest in peace “Coach”. Please make Memorial Donations to Sherry’s Run (PO Box 8, Lebanon TN 37088). Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, 615.444.9393.
