Obituary of James Miller Sprouse

James Miller Sprouse, age 87 of Madison, formerly of Gallatin, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020. Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 21st at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Brother Mark Grubb officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 20th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 21st from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow the service at the Historic Gallatin Cemetery, with grandsons serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The National Army Museum Fund, P.O. Box 96281, Washington, DC 20090-6281. Mr. Sprouse was born April 22, 1933 in Sumner County to the late Norman Ennis Sprouse and Ruby Pearl Brown Sprouse. He is survived by wife of 64 years, Betty J. Dozier Sprouse; children, James R. “Rick” Sprouse (Patti G.) of Iva, SC, Kenneth Wayne Sprouse (Sherrie) of Lebanon, Sue Ellen Sprouse of Hendersonville, and Joseph Morgan Sprouse (Judith I.) of Hendersonville; 7 grandchildren, Paul R. Sprouse (Rebecca S.), Erica S. Smith (Nathan P.), Meagan R. Sprouse, James L. Clark, Samuel W. Sprouse, Jacob C. Sprouse, and Adam J. Sprouse (Susan); and 6 great grandchildren, Aleana L. Sprouse, Andrew R. Sprouse, Aaron J. Sprouse, Elora M. Smith, Gideon P. Smith, and Rachel E. Davis. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State College in 1957. Mr. Sprouse served our country in the United States Army. After his service in the Army, he worked for Travelers Insurance Company and later purchased and managed Sprouse Insurance Agency. He became interested in Taekwondo, earning his Black Belt. And later taught Taekwondo Martial Arts at YMCA’s in Nashville and surrounding areas. Mr. Sprouse was a member of MOAA Stones River Chapter and National Association, Washington D.C. and he was a member of GracePointe Baptist Church.
