Obituary of Douglas Glen Parrish

PARRISH, Douglas Glen, age 72 of Old Hickory passed away December 8, 2020. Doug was a general contractor most of his life. He knew how to build most anything and everything. Many of his customers were repeat customers because of his quality work. His hobbies were camping, hiking, Alabama football games, rebuilding old cars, and car shows. However, his favorite hobby was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved sharing his hobbies with his grandchildren. Doug shared his talents with his children and grandchildren, teaching them how to build, repair, & maintain everything from dryers to cars to home repairs. Attending every grandchild's event and activity was incredibly important to Doug. From recitals, ball games, swim meets, theater performances, and graduations, the children and grandchildren knew he would be their biggest fan. He was a great father to two daughters and a devoted PawPaw to eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren which he loved with every ounce of his being. Doug was a good, Christian man, and was prepared to meet the Lord. However, he did not want to leave yet, as he said he had so much more to teach his grandchildren. He was diagnosed with colon cancer and liver cancer in September of this year at only 72 years old. He fought to live but the cancer was just too far progressed when he found out. He is so missed by all of his family and friends, but he is in the arms of Jesus, not in pain and now happy and healthy! Doug was preceded in death by mother, Melissa Lorene Parrish. He is survived by wife of 47 ½ years, Judy Parrish; daughters, Dana (Danny) Spicer and Kristi (Ryan) Scott; father, George Douglas Parrish; sister, Sherrie Lynn (Drew) Thomas; grandchildren, Curt (Rio) Coles, Lauren (Ethan) Brown, Ryan (Madison) Scott, Ross Scott, Charlie Spicer, Aaron Spicer, Rocky Scott and Roxi Scott; great-grandchildren, Adelyn Brown, Olivia Brown, Noah Brown and Ember Coles; and nephew, James (Julia) Mathison. Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 13th at 1:00 pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with Bro. Doug Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hermitage Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Ralph, Budge Bausell, Charles Holland, Dr. Chris Pardue, Brandon Pardue, Daron Whitehead, Galen Romine, Larry McMasters, and Donny Dowlen serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers: Neighbors, Steve & Karen Osborn, Bruce & Beverly Patrick, Charles & Charlotte Vaughn, Miles & Lindsay Duke, and Tim & Marla Matthews, Becky Brazier, and friends, Jack Osteen, and Jerry Alley, and the Elders and Deacons of Center Chapel Church of Christ. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, December 12th from 4-8 pm and Sunday, December 13th from 12 pm until time of service. Arrangements by Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet, 2229 N. Mt.
