William Swindle, Sr.

Obituary of William Richard Swindle, Sr.

William "Bill" Richard Swindle Sr., 82, of Hermitage, TN, passed away on December 26, 2020. Bill was born in Old Hickory, TN on 9/20/1938 to William and Anita Swindle. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School and attended Tennessee Tech University. Bill retired from AVCO, where he worked for many years as a mechanical engineer. Bill lived near the city he loved, Nashville, for most of his life, although he spent 12 years in Moore County, TN, where he made many close friends and spent many days on Tims Ford Lake in his little green fishing boat. Few fish were caught but a good time was had by all that were his lucky passengers. Bill also spent many nights in the woods with his beloved friends, Ken and Nancy, sleeping in his big black Buick instead of his tent because he did not enjoy camping. Bill loved John Wayne movies and ice cream, and he was the most passionate and loyal Tennessee Vols football fan. He was an accomplished dancer, a skilled ping-pong player, and he enjoyed playing cribbage and uno with his friends and family. Bill was kind, vivacious, funny, and had the most boisterous laugh. He was loved dearly by all who knew him and easily charmed everyone he met. In his later years, his most beloved things were his daily phone chats with his son in California, and relaxing in his favorite chair. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anita Swindle. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kay Lewis Swindle; his children, William (Leila) Swindle Jr, Misty (Steve) Kile, Connie Richards, Kimberly Shirley, and Stephen (Shirley) Staples. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom all knew him as "Pa," Taylor Kile, Taryn Kile, Joshua, Elisha Fielding Dimise (Eric), Julia (Ben) Dalton, Allison Fielding, Jaye (Emily) Brewer, Renea (Matthew) Rice, Sabrina (Nic) Chorpenning, Holly Staples, Oliver (Tabitha) Staples, and Carrie Staples; his great-grandchildren, Luca, Henry, Tre, Sam, Olivia, Charlotte, Millie, Miles, Aiden, Brinley, Maisyn, and Emersyn. He is also survived by his chosen brother, Jimmy Hall. Plans for a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet, 2229 N. Mt.
