Obituary of Gwen Bingham Gibson

Mrs. Gwen Bingham Gibson age 88, of Hendersonville passed away peacefully at her home on March 10, 2024. Gwen was born on July 18, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late John Matt and Myrtle LaPrairie Bingham.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hickman J. Gibson; brothers, John L. Bingham, Beverly Bingham, Billy Bingham, and Stanley Bingham; sister, Myrna Kintgen Stone.

She is survived by her sons, Mark Jeffrey (Stephanie) Gibson and Keith Gregory (Lisa) Gibson; grandchildren, Blake Timothy Gibson, Brent Edward (Katie) Gibson, Shane Christopher (Alex) Gibson, and Sarah Elizabeth (Preston) Carter; great-grandchildren, John Wyatt Gibson, James Ryan Gibson, and Hayes Elizabeth Carter; several nieces and nephews.

Gwen was educated in Catholic schools and attended Peabody College where she met Hickman. They married on October 15, 1955 and were married almost 45 years when he passed away in 2000. After being a homemaker and raising their two sons, she returned to public work. She enjoyed 21 years with the American Cancer Society as an administrative/program director and assisting with fundraising until retiring in 1997. She was the perennial secretary at PTA, homeowner association, board and executive committee at ACS church parish council. After Hickman’s death she became active in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church serving as lector, Eucharistic minister, committee co-chair, Parish Council member and Legion of Mary member where she visited homebound and nursing home residents.

In her later years, she most cherished her time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her faith kept her grounded, and she enjoyed being a prayer warrior. She has indeed gone home as she so fervently desired.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 14th at 11:45 AM from the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home at Hendersonville with Father Tomy J. Puliyan, MSFS officiating.
