Obituary of Mr. Walter Howard Barnes

Walter Howard Barnes, known by all as "Barney" was born May 11, 1944 in Stewart County, Tennessee, the sixth of 13 children. He passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2017. He was the son of Walter Lee and Emma Pearl Watkins Barnes. After 44 years of marriage, Barney leaves behind his devoted wife Mary. Other survivors include daughter, Karen (Timmy) Hunter, daughter Leanne (Jefrey) Wells, grandchildren Matt (Lydia) Hunter, Shannon (Garek) Dunham, Jacob (Haley) Mooneyhan, Anna Mooneyhan, and six great grand-children Elleigh, Megan and Whitney Hunter, Norah and Gabe Dunham, and Gabby Mooneyhan. He is also survived by six siblings, Mavis Brown, Norman Barnes, Jimmy Barnes, Gary "Curly" Barnes, Juanita Gregory and Judy Acrey. Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter and Emma Pearl Barnes, brothers W.C. and Luther Barnes, and sisters Beatrice Barnes, Mildred Grace, Joanne Wallace, and Martha Taylor. Barney served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division, from 1973-1979. After his service, Barney worked as a mechanic and truck driver for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Those who knew Barney are well aware of his passion for racing, Tennessee football, and Chevrolet, his deep hatred of Ford, and readiness to voice his opinion of all.
