Obituary of Mrs. Elizabeth Josephine Culbreath

A strong woman with a keen sense of humor, that trusted God, loved her family unconditionally, and gave encouragement to all who knew her...Mrs. Elizabeth Josephine Culbreath, age 90, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. Mrs. Culbreath was born January 7, 1927 in Portland, TN., the daughter of the late John Garnett and Ola Hardin White. Mrs. Culbreath is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth "Liz" Biggs (Danny) of Cottontown, TN and Georgia Culbreath Perkins (Charles) of Portland, TN. A son: Robert Raymond Culbreath (Cynthia) of Portland, TN. Two brothers: Steve and Wayne White both of Portland, TN. A sister: Carolyn Jones of Portland, TN., Grandson Robby Biggs (fiancée Kristi) and his children Daulton, Kaiden, and Easton Biggs, Grandson Josh Biggs (Jessica) and his children Josie, Elizabeth, Hallie Grace and Tucker Biggs, Grandson Chad Perkins (Lacy) and his children Charlie and Oliver Perkins, Grandson Adam Perkins (Candace) and their daughters Brook-lyn and Brae-lynn, Grandson Jon Ross Culbreath (Sarah) and their daughter Addison, and Grandson Thomas Culbreath (fiancée Amy) Mrs. Culbreath was a member of Halltown General Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Elizabeth was a secretary for A&P Tea Company in the late 1940's, an executive secretary for Indianapolis Morris Plan from 1950-1956, Bookkeeper for Whittington Fabricating Company from 1956-1959 before moving to Portland, TN. While in Portland, she was secretary-treasurer for Imperial Fabricating and Imperial Chemical Cleaning, Inc, as well as owner and bookkeeper for Culbreath Dairy Farms, accountant for Fleet Design & Engineering and Owner of Hometown Real Estate since the late 1970's. Elizabeth was a very active member of her community and was a member of several civic organizations such as; Member of civic advisory board of Highland Hospital, Member of Sumner County Board of Realtors, National Association of Executive Secretaries, Order of Eastern Star (Grand Esther 1982), ands was the first female president of the Rotary Club in Sumner County. Mrs. Culbreath was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bob R. Culbreath and four brothers, Richard Martin, Jackie, Garnett Lee "Buck", and John David White. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, April 14, 2017 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Portland, TN. with Bro. Clayton Hall and Bro. Robert Culbreath officiating. Burial will follow at Halltown Cemetery in Portland, TN. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM Thursday and from 9:00 AM until service time Friday at Gilbert Funeral Home. An Eastern Star service will be held 7:00 PM on Thursday evening at Gilbert Funeral Home.
