Jack was a dear friend for a few years about 1982 in and around Lubbock, Texas. Our conversation was centered on Jesus and we would often remain in the church parking lot talking well after everyone else had left. We shared an interest in Gene Edwards book "The Early Church" which advocated an extreme way of living Christ in community. We were both interested in Christian missions with Guatemala being one of the countries that we both had ties. He would say to be looking for him on the bridge crossing from Mexico to Guatemala and we'd know that it was meant to be. I have crossed that bridge several times and hope that he considered me as I did him during those crossings.
Jack was hard to keep up with and didn't leave much forwarding information. Once my wife and I traveled to Sudan, Texas where he was working on a ranch. There had been rain and we were in my little Toyota Celica; as we headed toward the ranch, the ruts on the dirt road got deeper and there was no way to turn back. We scraped through the mud to get to the corral. The other hands must have thought we were crazy.
In the years since I have often searched the internet looking for my friend and hadn't found him until this morning when my wife and I were remembering that trip to Sudan and we found this obituary. There is only a bit of heaviness needing to reach out to you who knew and loved him.
Our love and condolences to you though it is 5 years late. Jack and I know that 5 years is no time at all in God's eternity in which we dwell.
