Mary Keene

Obituary of Mary Adeline Keene

Mary Adeline Jones Keene was born on January 21, 1928, to the late William Ellis Jones and Edna Lee Johnson Jones. A lifelong resident of Macon County, she was raised a farmer's daughter in the Long Creek Community. She was the third child of four siblings. Her education came from a one room school house that held many memories and a special place in her heart. At the age of fifteen, Mary attended an Effort Meeting taking place at Keystone Schoolhouse. On Thursday night, September 2, 1943, God saved her soul and granted her the greatest gift one could ever receive on this earth. In October of that same year, she joined Long Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member there for nearly seventy-three years. It was at this same church that she met her future husband, J.T. Keene and at the age of nineteen, on October 25, 1947, they were united in marriage. In her early years of marriage, Mary worked at the Silk Mill here in Lafayette but later left the factory to become a fulltime housewife and mother. They were blessed with three daughters, Cathy, Marcia, and Treva. The girls married and had children of their own. All of the grandchildren stayed with Mary during their younger years, where she taught and instilled in them the important things in life. Number one on her list was salvation. She was a woman that wasn't afraid to ask a person where they stood with the Lord. Knowing where her strength came from and Who provided it, Mary was able to endure many hardships through the years. She was a lady that loved to be out doing yard work and gardening. Mary also had a talent for sewing and making her own clothes. Grandchildren were her top priority in life for so many years, but above all else was her Love for the Lord. She was a woman that loved her family and reunions to see everyone were always in order. On February 13, 2016, God called her home to her final resting place for a Family Reunion that we can only imagine. She will be sadly missed, but for those of us that have been saved, it's just a matter of time before we see her again. Mary Keene is survived by; Daughters, Cathy (Bill) Jones, Marcia (David) Anderson, and Treva (Joe) Marshall; Sister, Betty Hardee; Grandchildren, Tabitha (Mark) Wakefield, Samantha Kemp, Heather (Stacy) Gann, Greg (Heather) Ballou, Kayla (Matt) Cross, and Tori Marshall; Great-Grandchildren, Rachel, Ethan, and Isaac Wakefield, Sydney Kemp, Tyler, Tanner, and Trey Gann, and Kelton and Kadence Ballou; Special Little Friend, Ellie Evitts and several nieces and nephews she loved so dearly.
