Obituary of Donald Lee Shumate

Don Shumate, of Lebanon TN, formerly of Kent OH, passed away on October 24, 2017 at age 88.  The Funeral Service is 2 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN.  The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from noon until the service.  Interment in Christ Church Memorial Gardens, Nashville TN immediately following the service.

               Mr. Shumate was born in Pemberton WV.  He was a preacher, an inventor, and a hydraulics manufacturer.  He worked at Permco from 1965-1985 and Dosco from 1985 – 2007, and was on the Streetsboro City Council in the 1970’s.  He was the Director of the National Quartet Convention from 1982 – 2016.

               Mr. Shumate is survived by wife Mary Shumate; children Robert Lee (Janie) Shumate and Julia Faye Shumate Miller; grandchildren Tiffany Shumate, Dawn Pekarek, Donald Charles (April) Shumate, Jason R. (Kassandra) Miller, and Angela L. Miller; great-grandchildren Brielle Pekarek, Matthew Berecek, and Megan Berecek.  He is preceded in death by mother Maggie Mae Carter, father Ulysses Sidney Shumate, son Sidney Charles “Chuck” Shumate, first wife Julia Marietta Shumate, sisters Rozella Shumate Bowyer, Chloie Alma Shumate Osborne, brothers Bobby Ray Shumate, and Cletus Earl Shumate.  Arrangements by Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN 615.444.9393.
