Obituary of Julia McPhearson Barnes

Julia Ann McPhearson Barnes passed away on November 28, 2019 at age 83.  The Funeral Service, conducted by Brother Danny Sellars, is 1 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2019 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, followed by interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery.  Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Monday from noon until the service. 

               Julia was born in Converse LA to Edna Derrick and Robert William McPhearson.  She graduated from Fair Park High School with the Class of 1954, married and moved to Nashville TN where she raised her children.  She retired from the Tennessee School for the Blind after 30 years of service. As a young girl, she taught herself to sew, knit, crochet, tat lace, and do needlework, and she continued to practice those crafts most of her life.  Julia loved everything about the garden, and was certified as a Master Gardener, but flowers were her passion. Watching seedlings grow in the greenhouse would make her giddy with delight.  She was an excellent homemaker and cook who loved and provided for her children with all the love in her heart.  Her beautiful smile and celebration dinners will be greatly missed.

               Mrs. Barnes is survived by her husband Thomas E. “Sonny” Barnes, children Buddy (Kim) Farrar, Patricia Farrar, and John “Trix” Farrar, sister Patricia Brand, father of children Billy Robert (Paulette) Farrar, a number of cousins, and Sonny’s children Steve (Angie) Barnes, Sonya (Butch) O’Neal, and Sheila (Drew) Derosett. She is preceded in death by parents, and siblings James Carl and Robert William Jr. McPhearson, and Ruth Kaye Menard. Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, 615.444.9393.
