Heart
Joanie and Tommy Elbourn
When we did not recieve a CHristmas card, always teh first of the season, I searched and found Bob's obituary. My husband and I met Bob and Marylee when, as newlyweds, we moved to Jamestown RI in 1988. I worked on the island, and my husband served in the Navy in newport, but we attended the same church as Bob and MaryLee, and they quickly became our "folks" when we could not be near our families. Many nights we would take a walk on the streets between our home and theirs ... hoping Bob would spy us out of the kitchen window and call , ."Kids! come on in... " SOon we'd be sitting around the kitchen table, chatting.Sometimes Bob would produce a full meal just for us.. One year we even spent Christmas Eve and morning at their house, sleeping in a spare guest room- and we only lived up the road. I remember Bob carefully planting onions through black plastic mulch, showing us his dug out cellar woodshop, and, giving us more than a few homemade gifts: wood antique cars, Mary Lee's dolls and carousel horses ( our family has 3 of them !). SOO many memories of a couple who made our time in RI delighfully wonderful. Bob always reminded us of a Kentucky gentleman ( why KY I do nto know !). WHen we purchased a family homestead in MA in 1992, Bob joined my husband on more than a few weekends, helping to remodel the old place. In the yrs since we moved to MA ( 1992) we kept in touch , and every fall I tried to beat Bob witih the first Christmas card. How we will miss that ! I am SO glad to know he is safely home now, and that we will see him one day, all strong and energetic once more. Love you , Bob!.
