Obituary of Nellie Gray Coker

Nellie Gray Coker went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2021 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. Funeral Service will be Monday, March 8th at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Dr. Kevin Minchey officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 7th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Monday, March 8th from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens, with Cory Coker, Guy Neal, Scotty Neal, Paul Neal, Justin Davis, and Dennie Holcomb serving as pallbearers. The family respectfully asks that everyone who attends to visitation of service wear face masks and that social distancing is observed. Mrs. Coker was born in Bethpage, TN on March 31, 1927 to the late James Bedford Thompson and Nellie Maybell Williams Thompson. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the love of her life of 65 years, husband, Charlie Allen Coker, Sr.; her grandson, Charles Allen “Trey” Coker III; her brother, Woodrow Thompson; her sisters, Marie Thompson, Ruth Martin, and Marilyn Butts. She is survived by her children, Charlene Coker Mason (Wayne), Charles Allen Coker, Jr, and Stacey Coker Oatsvall (Randy); grandchildren, Guy Wallace Neal, Scotty Neal (Leslie), Cory Coker (Megan), Graycey Coker (Justin), Blaire Oatsvall, and Brooke Oatsvall Holcolm (Dennie); and sisters, Mildred Michey (Jr), Elaine Avaritt (Bobby), and Bettye Vaughan; Along with many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Coker was known for her laughter, stories, cooking, her love of church, her family and friends. She was a long-time member of Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church and attended Long Hollow Baptist Church in Gallatin, TN. The obituary was written by the family.
