Obituary of John D. Griffin

John D. Griffin, age 88 of Gallatin, also known as “Big John” or “Pa John”, passed away Monday, March 29, 2021. Graveside Service with Military Honors will be Friday, April 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Crestview Memory Gardens. Honoring him as pallbearers, will be Cody Griffin, Chad Griffin, Jesse Beasley, Jesse Griffin, Keith Jones, Jr, Patrick Swift, Brandon Roach, and Jacob Duffer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2000 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203, or the American Legion Post #17, 1140 South Water Avenue, Gallatin, TN 37066. Mr. Griffin was born October 7, 1932 in South Tunnel to the late Herman Griffin and Ruby Law Griffin. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Bobbie Jean Troutt Griffin; companion, Helen McKnight; and son, John T. “Little John” Griffin. He is survived by son, Danny Griffin (Paula) of Kingston, TN; daughters, Cindy Swift (Nick) of Gallatin and Amy Jones (Keith) of Vacherie, LA; daughter-in-law, Tonya Matthews Griffin Bayles of Westmoreland; brother, Lindsey Pearson (Jan) of Gallatin; sisters, Lillie Todd of Gallatin, Opal Jean Hood of Gallatin, Linda Gail Hinsley of Gallatin, and Patsy Gantt (Buster) of Gallatin; aunt, Susie Webb; 14 grandchildren, Jennah Griffin (Chris Hermosillo), Meccah Griffin (Sam McKensie), Jesse Paul Griffin, Cody Griffin (Easha Gray), Chad Griffin (Amber Farmer), Chantay Griffin Teasley (Hugo), Carly Griffin, Lauren Beasley Roach (Brandon), Jesse Griffin Beasley, Patrick Swift, Rachel Swift, Jacob Duffer, Ginger Duffer Smith (Will), and Keith Jones, Jr; and 15 great grandchildren. Mr. Griffin served our country in the United States Army. He retired from TVA after 33 years of service. Mr. Griffin was owner/operator of G and M Shooting Supply in Gallatin for many years.
